“The Siraaj ‘l-Ikhwaan Fi Ahamma Maa Yahtaaj Ilayhi Fi Hadha ‘z-Zamaan (the Guiding Light of the Brethren Concerning the Most Important Things Which Are Needed in This Age) of Shehu Uthman ibn Fuduye` which was completed at the time of asr prayer on Wednesday, the 15th of Sha`baan in the year shakuura [shin + kaaf + waw + ra = 1000 + 20 + 6 + 200] = 1226 from the emigration (hijra) of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, correspondi ng with September 4, 1811, during the six years that he Shehu and his jama`at resided in Gwandu. It was during this period that he appointed the regional Amirs throughout the Sokoto Caliphate, systematized the checks of balances of the government through the Islamic judiciary and established social harmony over the entire region of Central and Western Bilad ‘s-Sudan in the outward, and ‘divided’ and ‘dispensed’ the authority of the inward and gnosis of Allah ta`ala to the People of Allah throughout the world in the inward.”
